Playground Management LLC was officially formed in 2005, after several years of doing business as Playground Management in the music industry.
Originally formed by David Evans in early 2003, Playground Management was focused on serving the professional and personal needs of recording artists specializing in Hip-Hop and R&B. With an original roster that included one R&B singer, it quickly grew into a roster that handled artists with multi-platinum selling albums. By adding hip-hop artists as well as producers, Playground Management began working with people all over the music industry.
By the end of 2004, Playground Management had worked on personal management for Bizzy Bone (of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony), Mystikal (Elephant Man, Claudette Ortiz, Wil Hart, Charli Baltimore), The Brooklyn Zu (Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s group), as well as others.
While thinking outside the box for grass roots marketing campaigns, Playground Management gained several corporate partners with different strategies created to further exposure for its clients. Some of these included The Hip-Hoprenuer Tour teamed with Delta Funding Corporation. This was a tour designed with New York City area schools to teach the business of music to students and was backed by the Mayor’s Office of the City of Mt. Vernon (home of the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame). Another of the many marketing campaigns created by Playground Management was Hip-Hop Homeruns which teamed with various baseball organizations, including the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, to cross promote the two areas to selected demographics.
In 2005, David Evans met Stephen Smith at Sony BMG Music Entertainment. Smith had a production company of his own,
NNYL Productions, and the two began working together on various projects.
From there, the idea of the cross marketability of sports and music, and furthermore urban music, had the pair further exploring the possibilities of expanding Playground Management together.
After discussing the particulars of possible services available, Playground Management has now expanded into a full service management firm for both recording artists and professional athletes.
In early 2006 Playground Management signed an exclusive deal with two attorney-agents that they will work with concerning all Baseball and Basketball signees. In house counsel was obtained for the Football area of Playground Management. All attorneys have an extensive background in contract negotiation and sports law.
